Or if you have your drivers saved on an external device, back up your data, and reload the OS.

I had this error. Fixed it by copying 4 files from the C:Windows\Repair and replacing then the files from C:\Windows\System32\Config . (backup them first!) Of course from the Win Cd at the recovery console.
I'll provide steps, if you go that way...
