I have a HP a530n I bought in 2004. It has been upgraded with 2 gb of RAM, a Radeon x1550 Video card. The processor is a AMD 64 3400(2gb Prcoessor). I want to upgrade without having to buy a new computer. I am looking at getting a new motherboard, processor and more ram. Any suggestions? I have some knowledge of computers but lack the detailed stuff. Will any motherboard work?
Honestly, if you're looking to change the motherboard and CPU, you're better off getting a new case as well, especially if your HP uses a non-standard case that makes it hard to find a new motherboard for.
I would leave it alone until it dies. Save your money for another hp with windows 7. Most people don't have the patience to save and wait, but it usually works out best. Another option is to put your system up on ebay and start over. HP and Dell systems aren't designed for upgrading. And building your own isn't cheaper, in spite of what you hear. I've been comparing and building for 16 or 17 years, but buy mine now. My last Compaq presario system cost $199 at frys and came with 2 gigs of ddr2, keyboard, mouse, 4 in 1 card reader, etc. I couldn't build one that cheap.
