Pls review my system

Hello everyone, im about to build a new pc. I will use it a lot for playing Fps

I'm not yet sure about the cpu and psu. I live on the other side of the globe and prices are a bit higher here.

Here are the specs.....

Intel Core 2 Duo E8500/Core 2 Quad Q6600 -------cant decide

ASUS P5QL-SE or any p43 MB
Samsung/Transcend 4GB DDR2 PC6400
Sapphire Radeon HD 4870 1GB
Seagate 500GB SATA

any Thermaltake 500W/550W/600W psu ----not sure which one is appropriate

also not sure about the case.

I don't intend to overclock the cpu within warranty period.

I'm ordering the stuff next week. pls give me some suggestion

whats your main uses??? if its gaming getin the 8500 (or get the 8400 save money and OC it to the 8500 lol)

if its not gaming then the q6600 is ok.... but for gaming the 8500 owns it.

i don't think the 8500 owns the 6600 but if your sole purpose if for gaming then go with the 8500. if you want something that is a little more "future proof" as we say then the 6600 is the way to go but it is getting old. also, the 600 watt psu is the way to go and i'd go with a p45 mobo. if you decide you want to get another 4870 1 gig and do crossfire in the future you'll need the p45 mobo and a larger psu than 600 watts.

Forget the 6600, get the Q9400, much better option, only $30 more dollars, but cooler, and faster. OR if your THAT cost conscience, get a Q8300, almost same thing as Q6600, but cheaper.

Make sure the PSU you buy has two PCI-E connectors. You need them for the HD 4870.

If you play FSX or GTA 4 or you compress DVDs often then get a quad. If not, the E8500 is a better choice.

If you want a quad, look at the AMD Phenom II 920 (with a 780G or 790GX MB) or the Intel Q8300. The Q6600 is a bit old indeed.

See if you can find an Antec 300 case. It's very popular in North America and a good match for your setup.

i didn't notice before...... do i need to install vista 64bit because of the 4gig ram?

With XP 32bit your computer would still work, but you'd see only 3GB or a bit less instead of 4GB, and you wouldn't get DirectX 10 either so less eye candy. You don't absolutely NEED to get Vista 64bit but it's a very good idea.

I think so. The two cards trade blows in benchmarks. There will be games where the HD 4870 will do better, and games where the GTX 260 would have done better. Either way you should have a good experience and the differences are small anyway. Also, the HD 4870 is quieter.

How much did you pay for it? The one on newegg costs more than a 4890...which would be a bad choice.
