When I change the volume by using the sys tray icon, the computer makes a loud beep. The volume of this beep is constant and does not vary with the volume level for the computer. I cannot find anywhere to configure this or turn it off. I am using a Dell Vostro
with windows XP professional (updates current ).

Any help would be appreciated,

This is an issue with the onboard speaker with your laptop. To disable it, you have to reboot your computer, hit F2 when it's starting up to enter your BIOS, then look around for system speaker or onboard speaker, and disable it. Then exit and save changes, reboot, and you'll be good to go!

Hope this helps!

Thanks! Will try. Sorry with slow response. Busy marrying off daughter and not following up on everything I had going before out of town guests arrived.
