Hey

We are about to upgrade our network in the house (for our multimedia) and have 2 raided servers with our data on it, but the room in which the servers will be going doesnt have an lan ports/switch in it. But it does have CAT6 running through it to get to anohter room

There is about 10inches of cat6 which is exposed (no need to remove trunking to get to it) Is it possible to cut the cable, reterminate both ends with rj45 connectors, and effecivly put a gigabit swith in the middle?

his will save a lot of time and redecorating

If this is possible, how do i do it, and will i loose any speed? I have looked on the net but cant find much info

Thanks in advance

Mark

Is it as simple as buying a crimp tool and some new rj45 connectors? I assume all 8 wires need to be reconected, how easy and safe is this to do?
