If gaming is a low concern (but you still want it as an option), then you don't need that mobo or PSU (since you probably won't need to add another GPU) or that fancy ram. I would get the GA-EX58-UD3R SLI for a mobo, OCZ StealthXstream 600w for a PSU, and OCZ Platinum 6gb 1600mhz kit of ram.

On the GPU, Get a GTX 260 core 216 . The programs you use work better with Nvidia cards than ATI, the GTX 260 will be faster for your work needs, and equal in gaming to the 4870 1gb. This GTX 260 is factory overclocked and will be faster than any 4870 1GB at stock in games, and definitely give you an advantage in your photoshoping and other productivity work.

I would get this CPU Cooler with MX-2 thermal paste

The Case you picked is great.

Optical Drive

For an OS and apps HDD, get the Western Digital Caviar Black WD6401AALS 640GB and then the Western Digital Caviar Black WD1001FALS 1TB for data

And make sure you get Vista 64bit, or else you won't see all your ram.

^+1 Dont waste money on the hardware, that you wont be utilizing like the costly mobo and the RAM you have listed...Go with xthekid suggestion of the RAM and mobo...
But keep that corsair Powersupply....you might never know, will come in handy when you want to add more graphics power(though it looks like you wont be going for it now)

xthekidx beat me to it with his post. But he is correct with most of his changes on that build. Here is what I would do with that build.

Same case as you chose...which is a great one btw, but it's cheaper if you buy it from this site down below....

http://www.securemart.com/SMA2101442?pcode=4&utm_source=GoogleBase&utm_medium=cse&utm_campaign=freeppc $119.91
Cooler Master RC-932-KKN1-GP HAF 932 Chassis - 12 Bays - Black

Those X58 boards are set up for Crossfire and SLI so best to have a psu that can push two cards in the future....

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139009 $139.99 ($119.99 after $20.00 Mail-In Rebate) Free Shipping*
CORSAIR CMPSU-850TX 850W ATX12V 2.2 / EPS12V 2.91 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready Active PFC Power Supply - Retail

Like xthekidx said, no need to spend money on that mobo. This one down below is set up to use Crossfire and SLI.....

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128386 $209.99
GIGABYTE GA-EX58-UD3R-SLI LGA 1366 Intel X58 ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail

Same cpu, it's just OEM and it's cheaper...your getting an after market HS, so no need to spend more $$$ on the retail version....

http://www.ewiz.com/detail.php?name=I7-920 $265.99 Free Ground Shipping
Intel Core i7 Processor i7-920 2.66GHz 8MB LGA1366 CPU, OEM

Great HS...check " frostytech . com "reviews on this...it's rated up in the top 5.....

XIGMATEK Dark Knight-S1283V 120mm Long Life Bearing CPU Cooler - Retail

This thermal compound is non conductive, no set up time, and is probably about the best on the market atm.....

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835186020 $6.99
ARCTIC COOLING MX-2 Thermal Compound - Retail

Again like xthekidx posted above, that memory you chose is way over priced. This memory down below is a steal at this price.....

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231247 $94.99 Free Shipping*
G.SKILL 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Triple Channel Kit Desktop Memory - Retail

gtx 260 > 4870 1 gig. The 260 has it all over the 4870. When you can get the 260 for the same price or even cheaper than the 4870...then jump on it while you can.

Why_Me is on top of those bargains, take advantage of them. The subtle differences in the parts we picked amounts a lot to personal preference. On the GPU, his is initially cheaper, but mine is cheaper after the rebate, and its faster due to the factory OC. Whichever parts you chose to go with will suite you well.

im no expert, but from what i have researched and found out, the psu shouldn't be a problem, i just "prepared" for the future, as far as the case, as long as everything fits, you should be good. i just like the one i found.

basically the only thing with the case that i have put together, do NOT know if i am correct or not, but with i7 cpu and other various factors, you want a tower with alot of cooling potential with space and hardware...and my personal options for that was to only go with a full tower.

You "went with" meaning that you have paid for it already? Why did you get the 4870 1gb? Either GTX 260 option probably would have given you better results...And you didn't use any of the better deals that Why_Me found on the exact same items...

If by "download" you mean get it from a torrent, I wouldn't recommend it. A valid COA and product key are nice to have and since money isn't an issue...just buy it from a retailer. Plus a disk is very valuable if you need to repair or reinstall the OS. Do you need Vista Ultimate? Check out the features it offers over Home Premium and make sure you really need those features. Its just a combo of all the features offered in business and Home premium, if you need the business features then I suppose go for Vista Ultimate.

It doesn't seem you were too interested in any of the advice you were given. Apparently we wasted our time and efforts.

please don't be offended by my final product, everyone's ones advise is what led me in the right direction and i would have not made that decision or gained the knowledge i have without the input of people on these forums.

the experience of one man in any aspect of life is just that, the experience of one man. after doing my research i feel that i made the right decision, keyword in title, OPINION. If i made a mistake, it won't be more then a few clicks to fix the problem with in 3 days of shipping!

if you gave me input, i appreciate it and thank you for it!

I'm not sure who gave you the advice on here about taking the 4870 over the 260...whoever it was is a knuckle head for sure. A simple google search of; " gtx 260 vs ati 4870 " pretty much sums it up...oh well. Thank fully it wasn't anyone on this thread or even this forum or they would have been flamed for giving you bad advice.

Sometimes it makes me wonder why people start these threads on here asking for advice on a build especially when it's obvious they don't heed it. Oh well, since I'm laid off I have plenty of time to make these builds. :p

yay for the economy - more time to game !

but seriously.. i feel you - i'm going to graduate soon and i will probably go hide in Grad school until things improve.

If you plan on running dual vid cards you want a larger case.... and if money is an issue, then try this down below. The case is top notch for cooling and size...also it says "refurbished" but that normally means it was sent back due to a loose wire or untapped screw hole...which these cases are fixed and virtually new.

wow.. thats a great deal for the case. I was looking at that same exact case but the 900 + PSU saved 30 bucks... now I'll definitely get it because it ends up being 70 cheaper.

i did what you said with Google and found this in top 3

http://www.extremetech.com/article2/0,2845,2331453,00.asp

plus more, sooo with that said, it did pretty much "sum it up" that either some people made a mistake with their opinion , or it comes down to personal preference, OR....maybe you and some others should just stick to your day job and try not to make a career out of computer tech advice, or at least in your case..you should take your only advise and "A simple google search of; " gtx 260 vs ati 4870 " pretty much sums it up...oh well"

or is that above your level of comprehension.

i have what i want and appreciate from those who helped. for those of you, COUGH COUGH, who sit behind a computer and blog and "flame", lol, i could care more about my toilet paper then i do your very biased uneducated opinion.

thanks
laterz

You didn't do enough research and/or your original post didn't correctly represent what you wanted/needed.

Opinion is worthless, you should rely on reason. Why_Me and myself are both very informed members of this forum and we gave you good reason to go with the suggestions we made, you chose to ignore them. If you want to reconsider your selections you should cancel the order before newegg begins processing it, otherwise you have to pay restocking fees, some items you won't be able to get refunded for at all.

I don't understand why you would ask our advise and then chose other parts that we did not recommend or recommended against, then order it before we told you what we thought of it.

something i learned in life is "assumption is the key to failure"

what i mean is this , you said

"we gave you good reason to go with the suggestions we made, you chose to ignore them"

i did NOT ignore them , i researched them, and after doing MY research I have decided to spend MY money on MY components that i want for MY computer, kk, bye bye

lol...I have no problem with people being knuckle heads , it's when they start threads on here wasting other peoples time that it sucks. Advice to you is you would be better off posting a thread like this on another site wasting someone else time so they can call you a knucklehead later on.

And that link you posted by extreme tech, showed the 4870 beating the 260 in one game out of six not to even mention power consumption used by the 4870 sucked. Of course you being a so called "computer tech" would have recognized this. And when you go to run those two cards in Crossfire with that 750w psu while pushing two HD's, fans and over clocking...good luck. :)

wasting your time, you obviously don't have much going on...oh did i force you to type?

and they site ranked the radien being on top, who said i was over clocking? but of course, when someone wants to be confrontational but can't so they resort to "flamin" online, LOL, i love how you use that word, that is just a sign of ... i don't even know the word for it. but also pointing to the worst case scenario of this situation.

im done with you, you bore me and you aren't really of any importance in anyones life here, so i am done, got what i need, i have the money to upgrade if i need to so don't lose sleep over it!
see ya, thanks for ya'lls help who helped me.

Yeah we who are regular users here are uneducated and biased, we should all just give up so first-time "educated" people like you can take over, your advice and background is obviously superior to ours.

Wow, that guy has got to be the biggest D-bag I've ever seen here. Cheers to Why_Me and thekid for showing some restraint, something the OP couldn't handle.

He obviously respected "ya'lls" opinion enought to ask for your input, but after ignoring it, "ya'lls" became uneducated and biased. As a lurker who has made several upgrade purchase decisions based on posts by both of you, I can say you are both highly valued members of this community. That a$swipe will probably figure that out eventually on his own.
