Transferring OS + applications from an HDD to SSD

So I need someone to help me with a predicament. I have purchased an SSD and would like to swap it with the HDD thats currently in my laptop. However, I would like to keep my OS and all the programmes I have: I'm not too concerned with data, I'm going to place that on an external disk.

I'm running Windows 7 64 bit on an Acer laptop which came with no recovery disk. The SSD I have is an OCZ Vertex 2 120gb which I want to swap with a western digital 640gb. The SSD was bought yesterday, so I have done nothing to the firmware etc. Can someone please help me? An idiots guide would be great! I dont want to buy a new os and re buy all the programs!

  1. Use one of the many HDD cloning tools out there to clone the HDD to the SSD. However, DO note your HDD data used needs to be less than the size of the SSD.
