depends on what specs the 2x1gb sticks are, and wether your cpu/chipset has any limitations using more then 2 sticks of ram etc

for best results follow the golden rules - (1)most matched and (2) least amount of sticks used

Why do you think you have to add more RAM?
You already have 4GB ram.Which is more than enough.

6GB of RAM is more than needed.
SO I will advice you to postpone your plans of getting more RAM until you buy a whole new system.

I would think that depends very much on what he is doing. It is very easy to do stuff that requires more than 4GB.

How many people do something which takes more than 4 GB RAM?

And if he was doing something like that why he would have asked?
