i have a gigabyte ma790x-ds4 motherboard, with 4 gb OCZ ddr 2 800mhz gold plated, if i wanted to upgrade to 8gb of ram would i have to use the same brand? would i be able to use 2x2gb crucial 1066 alongside these sticks?

Using 4 identical modules always is better. Using modules from two vendors and/or having different specifications can lead to stability issues.
