Need suggestions ...

Purchasing a new desktop and wondering which one of these cards you all think is better. Just a causal gamer but like it smooth when I do play up to date games. Also, do you recommend upgrading RAM from 6 to 8gb DDR2-800mhz or is the difference not worth the bother. Thanks.

New System:

HP 9500
Operating system Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium with Service Pack 1 (64-bit)
Processor AMD Phenom(TM) 9650 quad-core processor [2.3GHz]
Hard drive 500GB 7200 rpm SATA 3Gb/s hard drive
TV/Monitor is 20" Sharp with DVI connection (max analog resolution is 1398x768) unless I use the HDMI connection on the new card which my old one did not have.

No need to upgrade the RAM, even six GB is way overkill, the two cards that you mentioned are pretty much on par, but I would pick up the new ATi 4770 if you are willing to spend a few mor dollars/

Wait an extra week and get a 4700 series card. Not a good time to be buying a mainstream card, prices will rearrange in a couple weeks, probably substantially.

If you are not in the market for a higher end card you don't need more than 4gig of RAM unless you use the comptuer for professional photo editing. The only reason I use 8gig is to save my SSD from the page file.. It actually lowers my performacne by a percent or 2 in most games comapred to 4gig (mind you upgrading to SSD's make up for that 1% in spades everywhere else)

------------------------------ CPU: Q9550 at 3.6ghz (FSB 425mhz) | MB: P5E3 Premium | Ram: 4*2Gb Corsair DDR3 @1417mhz | GPU: 2 HD4890 1Gb (925core/1025mem) CF | PSU: OCZ ELiteXtreme 800W | Sound: Creative Titanium Fatal1ty Pro | 2*120gb OCZ Vertex SSD Raid0 and 2 500gb Raid0 HDDS

These are the only options there giving me. I doubt they'll have available the new 4700 card anytime soon and I need a system like asap. What do you think, especially if I'm on a budget.

128MB NVIDIA GeForce 9300 [DVI, VGA] Included in price
512MB NVIDIA GeForce 9500GS [DVI, VGA, HDMI] +$30.00
512MB ATI Radeon HD 4650 [DVI, VGA, HDMI] +$50.00
768MB NVIDIA GeForce 9600GS [DVI, VGA, HDMI] +$100.00
1GB NVIDIA GeForce 9800GT [2 DVI, HDMI and VGA adapters] +$200.00
1GB NVIDIA GeForce GTS 250 [2 DVI, HDMI and VGA adapters] +$210.00
1GB ATI Radeon HD 4850 [2 DVI, HDMI and VGA adapters] +$220.00

What currency is that in? 220 EXTRA for a 4850 is beyond rediculous, even in canadian funds the sapphire vaporX version is only $190 by itself... Heck, the 4870 512mb can be found for less than 200 at soem retailers in cananda..

Given that list I would go with the 4650... but why are your choices so limited? Where do you live?

US ... Florida. This is through my company agreement with HP on special pricing. Overall compared to same configuration at retail stores its about $200 dollars less so the package is cheaper.

Is this a personal computer or a bussiness computer?

For US currency that is absolutely outragous for a 4850... I can't imagine anyone would be willing to pay that much of an inflated price for a personal computer. Though I unserstand if it is for work or through work how you would be locked into an exclusive supplier contract.

If you really have to choose from that list for casual games the 4650... but I would really really encourage you to build it yourself or pay a friend a case of beer to assemble it for you and save hundreds of dollars through newegg or something similar..

I'm seeing $699 at the HP site for that with the 4650, you could get the same exact parts from newegg for half the price. Or spend the same for a real gaming machine...

Buy it with the included option and then buy an HD4670 of newegg or somebody.

Their options are not worth the premium.

^+1. Also note, that HP/Dell OEM PSUs are pretty cr@ppy.

Imo, OP is wayyyy better off with a DIY.
Seriously OP, just build it. We will help you.

nothing wrong with the quality of HP/Dell psu's their rating is low but if they say 350watt they are equal to many of the 450-500watt units on the market.

^Not by a long shot. I know Dell's high end PCs and servers use SeaSonic built PSUs, but their normal consumer end PSUs don't come close to a OCZ, Corsair, Antec, etc PSU.
