First off, installing an OS on Raid 5 will make your system very slow. Raid 5 is designed for large amounts of reads and very little writes. And if you are using the onboard Raid controller, your system will be much slower than just using a single drive. Raid 5 really requires a dedicated raid card with a cpu built in to calculate parity. I have compared a 4 drive Raid 5 with Raptors using Intel's onboard raid (ICH8R) to a 3 drive(7200rpm) Raid 5 using a 3ware 8port controller and the 3 drive blows the 4 drive away. If you really want Raid 5, then at least get a different motherboard - one that has Intel's ICH8R/9R or the current 10R. This will allow you to create 2 different Raid Arrays on the same 4 drives using Intel's Matrix Raid. This is what I have done: Create a Raid 10 for OS/Apps and then a Raid 5 for storage or Raid 0 for video/photo editing.
