I tried taking out my RAM, putting the card in a different PCI slot but to no avail. I am using a a P4 3.0 ghz cpu, msi motherboard, 1 stick 512mb ram EMU10K1 sound card

It sounds to me that you are having the exact same problem as I am.

In summary, I have tried it on another system and it freezes it also. This must mean that it is a hardware issue. I am way past my refurbished warranty time, I suggest you RMA that thing ASAP. (But first try it on another system to confirm that it IS the card malfunctioning.)

Here are details of my problem, perhaps you'll get some ideas from this: http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?p=1034315627

Let me know how it's going.

I checked the link you posted and sounds like the exact problem I am having.... I don't understand what you mean by RMA though!! I have had this sound card for about 5 years and this was the first time I experienced so much trouble. My friend advised me to update windows xp and then try again what do you think??

Oh. I assumed it was a new card.

Have you tried it on another system? That would simplify the troubleshooting process.

If you haven't already, try what was suggested to me:
"Uninstall Drivers -> Safe Mode -> Driver Sweeper -> Install Driver from your sound card's CD (90% cases this is the best one for Creative)"

If that doesn't work, reinstall Windows and hope it's not the soundcard.

Ok I tried installing it from safe mode already but the same problem where windows freezes. The strange thing was that one time it actually installed and worked for like 20 mins and then the computer freezed and windows had to be reinstalled. Do you feel it is the sound card malfunctioning? I'm strongly inclined to believe this but do not want to take action unless I'm positively sure.

Did you update the drivers? sounds to me like it is a driver conflict issue.

Well I never had a problem with installing the drivers from the driver cd but it sticks anytime it almost complete installing. All the game drivers and everything are loaded but its just the multimedia audio driver does not load.. it was only one time I got it to load and then it freezed again
