My System Specs Are as Follows :

AMD Athlon 64 X2 6400+ Windsor 3.2GHz
Crucial Ballistix Tracer 8GB PC2 6400
EVGA 8800GTS
GIGABYTE GA-MA78G-DS3HP AM2+/AM2 AMD 780G
3 SATA HDDs
1 IDE Drive
600 Watt Rosewill PSU
Monitor: 40inch Samsung 1080p LCD 5 Series

So there I was playing CoD4 all happy and running fine then blackscreen no signal. I turn off the power to my PC and turn it back on. I notice that my Tracers arent lighting up and im still not getting a signal to the monitor, I try to turn it off by holding the power button but that doesnt work, so i flip the switch. I try to turn it back on but i get no signal to the monitor and the RAM still isnt lighting up. I hear the HDDs and the fans turn on but nothing comes up on the monitor.

This happened once before and i replaced the motherboard and CPU and it worked until now. My Current CPU, Motherboard, and RAM are new. My 8800GTS is a little older never had problems. Im leaning to the PSU and im going to buy one at a local store today. I would like input/advice from people here if anyone has any ideas.

600 Watt Rosewill PSU would be my guess

Went down to the local Store and bought a Antec 850, slammed it in and everything is running fine for now. I wont Cheap out on a PSU again, just not worth the headache.

I'm glad you fixed it :)

Mind you, an Antec 500W would have been enough there. Still, with that 1080p monitor you might eventually want a new MB and two video cards and then that 850W PSU will be perfect.

I always like to leave room for expansion.

Which one would you recommend for the upgrade?

I like this one, for example:

GA-MA790X-UD4P AM3/AM2+/AM2 AMD 790X $110
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6813128387

It supports your current CPU and RAM, but it also supports the latest i.e. Phenom II 940. It even promises to support future CPUs like the Phenom 955.

The best thing is, with a board like that and your new Antec 850W you can have two HD 4890 cards there and then you'd get over 60 fps at 1920x1080 in any game.

However, I wouldn't bother upgrading the motherboard alone. Wait until you decide you want a new CPU. If you're not playing Flight Simulator X or GTA 4 and you're not compressing videos a lot, then your current CPU is still fine IMO.

Sounds cool. What would be a good brand to go with. I see alot these days, Sapphire, HIS, XFX, MSI, and so on... I am just so used to EVGA.

I've had excellent results with Sapphire myself, and their reviews are usually good too.

HIS tends to make custom cooling solutions that allow for quieter or higher-clocked cards, and AFAIK they can be trusted too.

XFX used to be one of the best manufacturers of nVidia cards. Now that they are making ATI cards I expect they'll be one of the best there too.

MSI - some times they do good work, for example when they include Zalman coolers. Still, I trust them less than others.

Visiontek is also a good brand for ATI-based cards.
