Yes, i got it when trying to install the second update (which is also
installed with Sims 2). Best thing you can do is back-up your download
folder (also remove all hacks, since there are some that are not
compatible with University) and any other folder you want to back-up
(sc4terrains, packaged lots, projects, etc). Uninstall the whole lot and
do a clean install, then move the download folder back.

Good luck

Just removing everything from downloads should work, as a hack is just a
package that overrides the object, not overwrites it.

Hi, i had the problem that after installation it tried to Update using disk 4 of the sims 2 CD's and it would be during that update that it said "Error during update installation" and then terminated the install - thus Uninstalling the expansion i just Installed!

i spoke to EA support but they just said Try re-installing the original etc etc. so instead i went to the Patch Support page (http://thesims2.ea.com/update/) on the EA sims 2 website and downloaded the Patch update for the Sims 2 and installed it like that. That Worked, but the test was installing an expansion on top of that and see it Not need to Update anything therefore creating the Error.

Well, it Worked! it recognised that i have already Updated the previous install and did not need Disk 4 of the Sims 2 to try an update install. There was No error, and now i can play the expansions fine. All you have to do is individually download and install the patches for the expansions ( http://thesims2.ea.com/update/ )- and not use the Disk 4 way.

Hope this helps anyone. even if This thread is Dead.
