Hello,

My Acer Aspire 5100 is having a similar problem. I freshly loaded windows xp onto after cleaning the hardrive and reformatting it.

Now on startup it reads "Resource Conflict - PCI in Slot 3". When it says this i need to hit F1, then start windows normally. When it does this it freezes and does not start up. When the warning "Resource Conflict - PCI in slot 3" does not come up, then i go to start windows normally, and it will start up.

Below is the text that is coming up under the MSINFO32 Conflicts area.

I hope you can help me.
thanks so much for your website - its such an amazing resource!

Your post is from 11 days ago; hopefully you no longer need help !
Did you go into Device manager & Look for the Question Mark in yellow, for devices that have an error ?

Also, in BIOS, there is a setting for detection: Auto/Manual. Set it to Auto.

Can you move the slot 3 PCI card to another slot ?

As a last resort, you may have to backup presonal files, reset to factory settings, clean reinstall your OS & reinstall necessary drivers.

PS: I see this symptom reported a number of times for your make/model.

Thanks for your response.
I actually returned it to the store i bought it from - i had just bought it a few weeks earlier.

Apparently, someone at the store said that this is a common error message when these laptops are breaking down too, which was interesting because the machine was also getting really hot - not sure what was up with the fan and heat.

It got this error message less often with running Ubuntu on it afterwards, but it was still happening.

My lesson - DONT BUY A LAPTOP THATS MANY YEARS OLD!!! laptops dont have the longevity that a desktop has. So its just best to go new, and probably get an extended warranty

Thanks for your help anyways
