hey.
so after messing around with the ideas of a core 2 quad or core 2 duo system i finally came to the conclusion of an i7 because of future proofing and hopeful price drops over the summer. here are my ideas, please give me some input with legitimate facts such as benchmarks and stuff of why one thing is better than another
future thanks!
cheers:

The Coolermaster V8 heatsink, is that the same as >this< one? Do you really want 1.91lbs hanging off of your motherboard? I would not, especially after spending that amount of money. I'd consider something lighter, such as the Noctua U12P SE1366.

Just to be safe, does that RAM show up as compatible with your motherboard? I'd check the motherboard maker's QVL (Qualified Vendor List) to make sure it's listed. Sometimes if you have problems with your board, the first item Asus will use to get you off the phone is saying your RAM isn't listed on their QVL list. Just an idea.

I don't see a PSU listed, but Seasonic, Corsair and PC Power & Cooling are very good brands. As your systems stands right now, a 500 or 600 watt PSU should be fine, but do run the online configurator at Corsair's web-site (for example), where they ask you the components you have and they make a recommendation.

For thermal compound, personally I would pick either Artic Silver 5, MX-2 or Noctua's NT-H1. I don't know which one you selected, they are more or less the same these days.

Yes, the GTX 275 will rock, If the price comes down a bit. The 4890 is also nice, or even the 4870 1gb model.

For cpu cooler I would go with a True 120.

No offense Croc, but that anantech is one of the most biased reviews I have read in a very long time. In fact even a few of the posters on the article pointed that out. Out of 5 reviews...tomshardware being one of the 5, and that also includes guru3d, legit reviews, etc... anandtech was the only one to give that 4890 a review like that. All the rest had the gtx 275 ahead of the 4890...including this site.

Yeah that is the first review I have seen that puts the 4890 on top, all other reviews I saw put the 275 a little ahead of the 4890 in just about everything.

Post the other links, then... I did not, and do not, recommend any particular review, or any particular CPU, GPU, PSU, etc unless I have personal experience with that item. Personally, I have found Anandtech to be one of the most un-biased review sites around, but each to their own. Guru3d seems to do a bit of cherry-picking as well. And to recommend a review from Tom's??? No comment.

I'm quite comfortable recommending the Noctua HSF as it does a more than adequate job, quietly.

These links down below are reviews of the gtx 275 and they also include the ATI 4890.
