Hi
Im putting together my first computer
I bought an asus rampage ii gene motherboard, and have been reading through the instructions and have come across a requirement that it must have at least 600 watts.

I did a lot of research on this motherboard before i bought it, not once did i find anything mentioning this.

The problem is i have already bought a 550 watt corsair psu and have struck lucky with a loose screw rattling around inside it. I could of course try for a refund and get a more suitable psu if it isnt compatible.

in fact the way i found this particular psu was through the psu search on www.corsair.com
the results it came up with were 520, 550 and 650. i just assumed any would be compatible...my mistake

but could anyone let me know if it is compatible and to just get a replacement?

just incase you need to know:
intel core i7 920
geforce gtx 275
1 hard drive
will not be overclocking

If I read that correctly, it recommends a 600W minimum for a "fully configured system". There is no definition provided, but there are twoPCIe slots, so 600w minimum for an SLI/xfire system would certainly be sound. Later thay recommend 1000w for 2xHighend vidcards. Ahem.

Anyhow, yes, a good quality 550W is compatible (like your defective Corsair would have been).

OTOH, a 600W psu may avoid deflection should you need to talk to Asus for support.

Well a Corsair 550w is better than a generic 650w any day.

You only need 29 amps on the 12v rails. You actually have 41 amps available.
