I've had this system for a few years with a dual boot drive of Win98/Win XP. I rarely open the win98se side now, did for old games for kids long ago.

Recently it passes memory test but then DOES NOT recognize the IDE's. I started it again today and it DID, I booted into XP and after a little while the blue screen of death noted a kernal problem. Waited a while, started again and the Win98se side simply failed after a while showing an inactive black C-prompt screen. Is this a bad board? There is a bios update available. I've read the IDE secondary posting here too with IDE update solution. I'm not sure how to proceed.

If I follow the protocol, will it automatically repair the registry once I restart. I'm newbie here, how do I fix the registry. Deleting one item is the fix??

In both the Xp and Win98se sides there wasn't a NOIDE to be found where the link you provided suggested.

What next Mr. Wizard?
