Better hard disk brand

I need a new hard disk adding to my PC.
Please suggest a great hard disk brand.

  1. There are four main brands you should always turn to for hard drives: Samsung, Hitachi, Seagate, and Western Digital. Any other brand is just a generic.

    I prefer to go with Western Digital based on past experiences, but basically you get what you pay for with those four brands.
  2. We don't have data on reliability. The two manufacturers most often recommended recently are Western Digital and Samsung. The recommendations are primarily based on performance and costs that day at Newegg.

    WD makes several different lines of HDs, so make sure you match the line you choose with your intended use of the drive.
  3. I like my Seagate barracuda 7200.12s. Quieter than my Samsung F2EGs and the 'cudas (500GB single platters) have an average read of over 100MBs.

    However there has been a problem with seagate 7200.11s and the barracuda LPs.

    Here is a comparison between The Spinpoint F3s and the Barracuda 7200.12s. Both 500GB.
