Hello guys,

I'm rather new here.

I plan to upgrade my system. This is what I currently have:

Motherboard: Asus P5E
CPU: Intel Quad Core Q6600
GPU: BFG nVidia 9800GX2
PSU: Thermaltake ThoughPower 650W
RAM: 4GB (2x2048) Mushkin

I will sell my motherboard, cpu and memory and I want to buy an i7 920 CPU. (i'll sell my GPU later when nvidia comes out with DX11 cards).

Can you please let me know your thoughts on what motherboard and memory I should choose for this CPU? Can you also let me know why will you choose the motherboard you're proposing?

Many thanks in advance.

^ How much do you plan to spend on the mobo and RAM ?
For a budget level, I would choose this board - ASRock X58 Extreme
Reason -

And many reviews on the net about that board

Mainstream options - ASUS P6T, Rampage II Gene, Gigabyte X58 UD4P

Other higher budget options - ASUS P6TD, Deluxe V2, Gigabyte UD5P

RAM - Mushkin 6GB DDR3 1333MHz CAS 7

or

mushkin 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 CAS 7

Stick with a good board from a top name - preferably one with a Bios you're familiar with. (the Bios can often be 3rd party, with maker-specific tuning: Award is a common one) Unless you are intending on very heavy overclocking you'll notice no difference.

Beyond that - given equal features - You may well decide the Black and Red one looks sweeter than the Neon Green; while the next guy buys the green one because he can get color~matched coolant for his liquid setup. Someone else may just grab the one that's on sale 'cos his case is closed anyhow and you can't see inside.
