Drive missing on xp

when i switch on f: drive missing from my computer. i have c: d: and f: as well as e: which is the cd drive, this is not always but a 9 out of 10 occurrence i think there is a run cmd to correct it but I've forgotten it. i was having virtual memory problems but i let microsoft fixit fix this don't know if related. here is the system info:

One of my friends had an external drive, and wasn't seen in My computer, but it was weird because every time he written the drive letter (this case, D:\) in the address bar in any folder the drive would open. Your's doesn't open in any way? Can you access at least folders from your drive from cmd?

    If you have Tweak UI in your Control panel enable the drive letter. Check also if you can see it in Device manager or Disk management or try assigning a different letter ...

    f:drive is not a dvd drive door does not open

    don't have Tweak UI in your Control panel or Disk management

    shop said drive was on way out would last maybe a couple of months so i emptied info on to remaining disk which is 150gb split into 40gb and 110gb and will buy a 500gb disk if computer can take 650gb and necessary increase of memory to 2gb
