CPU to CPU, the POWER6 is faster for almost any workload. Intel is brandishing about all these benchmark results that compare socket to socket, which is a ridiculous comparison -- comparing 4 CPU (Intel) to POWER6 (IBM). It is a good marketing ploy.
@jitpublisher is right.... at what? or for what?....... remember back when Intel came out with 3.0GHz processors and AMD xp's were mopping them off the floor at a slower speed? Faster at what or faster for what?....... specifics please :-)
Although a dragster can develop over 2000 horsepower and it is faster that most racing cars I would not put the engine in a 250 mile race......
Actually top fuel dragsters produce over 7,000hp and its faster than ANY car (except a top fuel funnycar)
Sorry for butting in your post
yah - For 4~5 seconds.... They wouldn't make it even part of a lap in a roadrace. You know... That whole "Go Around Turns" thing.
So the original question still stands: "Faster, For What"?

------------------------------Which Chip? Well, it depends on which set of thieving b@stardz you choose to support: The ones who use insider trading to enrich themselves while running their company into the ground, or the ones who illegally pay vendors to not support the first group.
