Problem with computer at start up

When i turn on my computer that has been working fine up to a couple weeks ago, the gfx card fan spins to full speed and stays at full speed. Every thing else spins at normal speed but the hard drive light doesnt flash and nothing appears on screan untill i hit and hold the restart button 2-3 times than the gfx card fan goes down to its normal speed and the computer boots up regularly.

Any one know what the problem might be?

What are the complete system specs? I've seen problems like that caused by RAM issues. This checklist might have some helpful troubleshooting ideas:
