Well the title of the topic says it all. My 4870x2 has some serious problems with drivers... I tried installing catalyst 9.4 and the display driver. I have the beta windows 7 64bit. The problem first started when i noticed that only 1 core of my gfx card was working. I had windows vista 64bit at that time. i updated to windows 7 and the vista drivers were removed and basic microsoft drivers were used instead. The microsoft drivers used both cores of the card but the performance was much weaker than i was used to. Then i tired installing ATI 9.4 display driver. That made the performance worse than the basic microsoft driver. both cores were working at 30% max. Has anyone heard of this problem or seen it before? The last time i had this problem I had to reinstall vista and reinstall all the drivers. I would do that but every time i do, i lose another DRM activation.... I hate DRM activations soooo much.... I've already lost the use of Stalker clear sky, and I'm on my last activation of Far Cry 2. Thanks for checking this out and i dont think i am the only person to have this problem but i have not seen it around. Please help me!! oh and one more thing, my card has never ran at the default speeds only ran at 500mhz core and 500mhz memory. I used rivatuner to fix this and set speed manually. I dont know if this is has anything to do with the problem but just another problem with my card.

Hmm, paragraphs.

Well, this could be a problem or it could not.

How do you know that only one core was working in vista?

How did you test that your clocks were staying in 2d mode?

What other drivers have you tried?

You cannot run out of activations for far cry 2 if you revoke current ones AFAIK.

don worry, it is in power saving mode,
it will run at full clock speed in game.

BTW do not use Riva Tuner, if you are not aware that the card has power saving feature than you are not that familiar with the cards you own. I would not mess with Default clock and fan settings. Setting the clock manually will increase your overall power usage and temperature will increase significantly too, so save yourself some additional trouble and uninstall Riva Tuner

Anyone think that the OP is just 11yo? BTW hardware drivers must be installed for each OS if the system is dual boot.

Ok first off, yes the post was poorly written. It was 3:00am here and I wasnt really thinkin too clearly. Anyway I tested my core speed with GPU-z through a number of my games and the speed remained 500mhz also only showed one core was working throughout. I upgraded from vista 64bit so its not a dual boot, and yes i am aware that the power usage goes up by using rivatuner on the card. Lastly thanks for letting me know that Far Cry 2 isnt DRMed anymore, but is the Steam edition also not DRMed? Oh and i used catalyst drivers 9.4, 9.2, 9.1, and 8.8
