hi, I think my gpu (7900gs) is on its way out , and was looking at a couple of cards, the thing is i don't no whether to get the 9800gt 512 (pny) or the 1gb (Inno) , I am using a 24'' mon' and i'm playing games at 1920x1200.

Is it worth me getting the 1gb version as i have read that most games don't use the extra memory, but have also read that at higher res the 1gb would be wise, but there are alot of contradicting arguments, .. can anyone please advise?

get the 512, GPU ram only makes a difference at higher resolutions, and if you're playing at higher resolutions a 9800 gt won't cut it.

running at 1920x1200 1gb would be preferable, however at those resolutions a 9800GT won't cut it, you'd be better off getting a better graphics card.

If you are happy with the 7900 you will find the 9800 quite an upgrade but no, do not get the 1Gb version or you will just be paying for something you will not use and do not need.
Adding to your post; What is the rest of your spec, what is your budget and what games are you playing?

I would go after the ATI 4770 instead. Better performance at those resolutions and a better price! Read the review here.

I am playing lotro, eq2 and works well at the native res on 24'' 3700+ (for my tastes anyways :), 2 gig ram, , £115 budget ,
