Hi guys I'm going to buy a new system soon and I've been doing research on the 4870. Lots of peeps say it gets hot. The thing is I'm gona crossfire when i get more money so that's gona heat up my case quite a bit, I don't really want to have a radiator as a computer.
I'll be using a Coolermaster CM690 as a case
Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3P as a mobo
Would it be better to get the saphire vapor-x with already a good cooler or to get one with a not so good cooler and then buy a third party cooler. If so, would that fit in my case or would the spacing between the two cards be too little?

I have two HD4870s in crossfire. One of them is the dh8470 1GB Vapor-x and the otherone is HIS HD4870 1gb with ARtic Cooler Twin Turbo cooler.
The Twin Turbo cools the GPU better, but it takes an extra PCI slot and also the VRM heatsink that comes with the cooler is pathetic so you need to improvise there. I was able to use the HIS STock VRM heatsink with the Twin Turbo heatsnik and they work great. Idle temp 47C - Full load 69C
The Vapor-X has a higher Idle and full load temps but stilll way better than stock heatsink. Idle temp 67C - Full Load 80C, plus this card is sitting above my HIS HD4870 card so its getting an additional heat from that card. If you run it as a single solution temps will probably be lower.
Also both of my cards are oced at 790/1000
The Vipor-x takes only one PCI slot and it has a great VRM heatsink. Also this card uses less power than the other HD4870s due to its VRM redesign.
Overall you can go both ways but I think Vipor -X will save you around $30 since you dont have to by a after market cooler.
