Ativa media reader model 7-35854

Hello, Windows does not recognize my Ativa portable USB media reader. The end opposite the usb plug opens and you stick the little 2Gb media card from a digital camera in it.

This media reader worked fine for 2 weeks. I just am trying again. It reads 2gb and 4gb sd ram. I have exchanged it twice at office depot, but they no longer will honor my purchase.
I have not received any help from Ativa website and applied for refund to no avail.
It has a light that turns on when plugged int my usb connection on my desktop with Win Xp pro with all updates.

I have tried to add new hardware and MTP device to no avail.
