I have a Hughes SD-DVR40 DirecTV TIVO unit that i picked up second hand and
have upgraded it to a 120 gig, 2 drive setup (40 gig + 80gig).

I also have a brand new fresh type 5 card still sealed in a package.

I backed up the original drives image and did the 1 drive to 2 drive upgrade
following the Hinsdale instructions on
http://www.newreleasesvideo.com/hi [...] ndex9.html

Anyways, the main problem is that the previous owner has set a password that
will not allow me to go in and reset the dang system to a virgin blank state.
I guess that would be the term i am searching for??? Anyways, without the 4
digit code to reinitialize the tivo, i cannot get it to a point where i can
start fresh as the new owner, neither can i remove the blank entries in the
now playing section etc. I called a drone at DirecTV and they said a new
access card installed would allow me to reset the system but thats a little
hard to believe as it still wont allow access to reset with or without a card
inserted, it just wont allow me to get past the password. And the drone
really wasnt absolutely sure about the info they gave me and i dont want to
waste or lock a card if it isnt going to help.

Is there and hack or such that i can apply? I do not need to install a network

or setup the USB ports or anything as thats not my purpose for the tivo, but
if i need to redo the drives in a pc and apply a certain hack or mod then i am

all for it if it will help.

Please help, and thanks to all who respond.
