External laptop hdd question

will this Seagate® Momentus™ 5400.6 Series - 500GB Mobile Serial ATA II (SATA2) - Serial ATA 300 (3Gbps) With 8MB Cache @ 5400RPM

fit in this Transcend® StoreJet 2.5" - Aluminum External SATA HDD Enclosure

and will it only run off my laptop battery i don't want it to have to be plugged in something else please i need to know urgently

Do consider that the transfer speed has a potential maximum of 60MB, You are likely to only get 35MB. Massive overkill.

Drive operating power = 1.78W
Some USB generate upto 2.5 W so theoretically possible. However Seagate suggest that MAX startup current is 1amp. So some USB sockets (maybe most still) only go upto 500ma.

Might work but don't bank on it. Wrong drive for external anyway.
There is a 100GB external version though.
