Hello all , Thought I'd ask for some advice before I proceed. I want to switch cpu on a system I am giving to my son as follows,

intel Q6700,Asus P5K deluxe mobo, 2gb Corsair Dominater , BFG 8800 GTS oc, XP pro SP3. System runs excellent over 2yrs. I want to take the q6700 out for a new build (I have all other components for) and put in a C2D E6300 (I also happen to have) and not have to reinstall OS or any thing like that. Any info appreciated,

Thanx

Will

Thanks for reply badge. I have done as you stated and yes it is supported. My question is not will the board support it but rather can I just remove the q6700 and put in the e6300, turn on the system and voila. or will I have to reinstall OS/drivers/BIOS/ or any thing like that? Everything else to stay the same just change out cpu.

Thanx.

You should be fine. There is an issue if you go from single to multi core, but both CPUs are multi core so you should be fine.

same socket... should be a problem... just run cpu-z after make sure the correct one is detected with proper multiplier
