New build won't boot xp

I have not been able to boot up the new computer i built with windows xp. ive tried to install it by usb flash drive and cd optical drive. i have tried many things to get this going. can somebody please help me out.

What kind of PSU did you have, and did you remember the stand offs for the motherboard tray/compartment. Be sure to check out the computer checklist made by Proximon.
 
Is the system POSTing? If so, at what point are you having the problem?
Could be many things, but if it POSTs and you can get into the BIOS, then the problem starts to get a lot easier. If you are not even getting to the POST screen, yeah then go to the link above and start there.

I can get into the BIOS screen. I have set the booting order so that it will boot from my dvd drive first which has the windows xp o/s.

The furthest I can get is to a black screen with the CPU temp and etc. Below that says a long the lines of Inserting Media to reboot and hit any key to do so. It seems like it does not recognize that there is a disc in the dvd drive.
