Sounds to me like your PSU doth sucketh. In other words it can't sustain both cards even though it deceived you with it's "500W" rating. You flashing the BIOS like that may not have been a good idea of the XFX card uses a different PCB layout to achieve it's higher clocks. Oh well

So yeah, get a good quality PSU (P&C, Corsair, Antec, FSP) and you should be fine, hopefully . First though I would do a clean install of Windows to be sure that it wasn't just a driver problem.
