Ok, HELP......

I have just completed an economical mid range home build and have purchased an Asus Radion HD4670 GPU ().

There is an issue with crossfire support with the onboard card and there is now a further issue that has come to my attention which is that the fan has only two settings, off - on 100% (no control)

This has irritated me no end, and as the websites say that you can control the fan I am sending the thing back for a refund.

The question I have is which card in the ATI range that costs around £60 - £90 is the best for my purposes.

The requirements are the same as those served by the above model but naturally I want to be rid of the annoyances incurred with the HD4670.

As I said at the beginning------ HELP!!!

Are you trying to crossfire the 4670 with a 780g/790g integrated graphics? If so it won't work. From the ATI site
ATI Hybrid CrossFireX™ Technology
Based on ATI CrossFireX™ multi-GPU technology, ATI Hybrid CrossFireX™ takes the gaming experience on a mainstream Windows Vista® PC1 to the next level. When combining an AMD 780 Chipset with an integrated GPU and a discrete ATI Radeon™ HD 3400 Series2 or ATI Mobility Radeon™ HD 3400 Series GPU, ATI Hybrid CrossFireX™ combines the GPU performance and delivers high-quality gaming images onto a single display.

A 4670 is way better than a 3450 crossfired with the onboard you should just keep it.

Cheers astrotrain1000,

I came to that realisation after I posted here.

This issue that is outstanding relates to the Fan which runs 100% all the time making my case sound somewhat like a hair dryer. Simply put I think the question should be modified to a card that has fan speed control that works.

I have stumbled across this card and the reviews apear to ok - SAPPHIRE HD 4770 512MB

Any ideas??

Check out ebuyer or scan and get the 4770 for less than £80 - that's a steal.

Awesome power of the 4770:

Catalyst control center easily will adjust your fan speed to whatever you want.....

zipzoomflyhigh:-

Thats the way it should be, however there is nothing in the GPU Bios that allows the fan to be controlled. Its missing from nearly all the brands cards hence the anoyance.

Its got great RAM and is fast and highly specified, but it has the fan on 100% = Annoying.

nerrawg:-

Thats the model I was looking at, what I now need to know is whether or not I should worry about taking the drop to 512MB on board memory????

what is your screen resolution? I don't think it will matter though because the 4770 in CF is faster than any 1 GB card out there anyways - you might only need the 1 GB at 2560 x 1600 resolution
If you are talking about the 4670 1GB - then there is no competition - the 4770 beats it regardless of memory - the 4670 can't refresh its memory quick enough to compete with the 4770
