Do I just plug it in and -bam- I am surfing? I just signed up to the
unlimited data plan so I could play with the streaming tv app mobitv. I
figured I would consider the feasability of using this thing as an
internet backup the next time by broadband fails. I wonder...

I use mine when my DSL goes out. It isn't fun though. <wink> I primarily use
it when away from home on my notebook or when I need to hook up to the net
briefly on my notebook when servicing someones hosed computer. You will have
to install the drivers for the "phone modem", then configure dial up
networking to use that modem and give it the proper username and password.
Assuming you alread have WAP properly set-up on your phone, you tell it
WAP@CINGUALRGPRS.COM for user and CINGULAR1 for password. Tell it to dial
*99# and make sure your new modem (your phone) is the default to be used.

So when setting up the phone modem driver it will see the mobile
plugged into the usb port and I just choose it, instead of a com port?
You said it's not fun... does that mean it is slow?
