I am using a vapor-x and want to know what the average idle temperature would be. From the catalyst center, it shows 51-52 degree celcius @ idle and the fan is at 0% also (I have that in a cooler master HAF 932 case). Is that normal for the vapor-x's fan not running until it is needed?

Does it turn on when it gets under load? 50C is impressive (and quite safe) for the fan being off, but if it stays off, that will be a problem. You should also be able to manually set the fan in CCC to if you would prefer it staying on.
well at the moment I am not running anything super intense like crysis or AutoCad per se but if that is a definite safe from all posters' consensus, then I guess I can live with that
the noticeably loudest thing in my whole setup are the 2 cd/dvd burners when in use. other than that, those 230mm big boys are silent and since I am not OC-ing anything in my setup(everything is stock). I can put my hand on the exhaust and feel a gentle cool breeze coming out. The HAF case is definitely a very good investment. Downside is that it is huge (60cm height) and light ( about 20kg fully assembled).

Idle temperature for Vapor-X HD4870 1Gb stays around mid 64-67C. My card reports that and so do say other reviews. and then fan is working at low speed.
I am not sure your measurements are right.
The high load temps of the GPU should not be more than 80C
I got the temperature reading from the CCC panel ,
it's varying from 51 to 54 celcius, that's just me @ time watching a movie and maybe doing some light readings/work. I have made a screenshot but don't know how to put that up here
yeah thats great. My temps might be a bit higher also due to running crossfire. my Vapor-X is above the HIS DH4870. Anyhow my temps are still well below stock cooling.
I'm pretty sure vapor-x technology is exclusive to sapphire right now, but....
I have the 4870 1gig vapor-x and it runs 40c idle and jumps to 45c on older games and anywhere from 50-55c in newer games with 100% fan speed all the time. whats the point of a fan if your just going to have it on when it decides for itself when to turn it on, unlock the overclock section in ccc and run that thing at 100%. plus I am overclocking from the stock 750/900 to 790/1000 so it runs even better. and those above temps are while its overclocked, not sure what it is stock but i don't like stockie.
was thinking of getting one of these, how loud is it when in use?
when compared to the haf932 220 fans is it noticeable?
what would you say is currently the loudest thing in your machine?
