hey guys

I came back late at night and turned on the pc and everything became slooooww. boot times were long. opening folders takes forever. to play a video is 20 seconds. to even open my computer locks the system. HDD is around 3 months old. not sure if its that.
anyway to do diagnostic check for cpu and mem to be certain it isnt them?

I also get window drag lines around windows I move around the screen. meaning the borders of the windows have the outside edge outline showing and when I press outside the window area it dissapears. I have a 9800gtx card and I thought that was the issue but I also have an onboard POS gpu (not sure which) and it does it with that as well.

when I run avast it locks up the whole system for a few minutes. this just happened last night.

I need some kind of direction on what to test please.
Any help appreciated

I also never seen this before but from last month, every time I boot it opens the last folders I had open. why the heck is this happening?

it mainly gets stuck really long after the xp logo when it has the light blue screen and the welcome message.

also 2 HDD (3 partitions in total) are not showing up in my computer.
Thanks in advance.

oh and for no reason whatsoever it sometimes does the usb sound when you disconnect it, even though I never touched the pc case.

when I do netstat in cmd I have a huge list of numbers. it takes 3 seconds to write the whole list. not downloading anything-torrents. Im guessing too much p*** maybe its best I just do a reinstall?

You could first, try a System Restore to a date just prior to when your problem started.

I tried a restore point from some time last week. it started the procedure and hung at about a 1/3 way progress wise. I went to do errands for 3 hours, came back and still on the same 1/3. the HDD wasnt flickering. what can it be?

What else have you tried, that I may be redundant in replying to ?

not much from last night, truthfully. later at night I'll get the files I need to another hdd and do the reinstall and see if that works. it was jittery about 3 months back with the huge netstat list of addresses(at least 100!). I thought I was having throttling issues with the ISP but if I reboot and start over, its much better, but this slowness is killing me.the hdd light shows it working like a bitch nonestop at certain times and others times nothing at all, even though im not doing anything. too many bad porn sites.

question though, when I close the pc, I simply press the pwer button and let it do its thing, and when I reboot it opens the folders I last had open..why and how is it doing that? these are folders with either music or pictures or videos, or even folders with text files from my desktop.

thanks again
