Which heatsink should I get out of these five?

Get the Zalman, they're known for high quality CPU coolers, also if you want qiuet for good performance get that Scythe. They are very good coolers and the fans that are included are extremey silent and move good air.

Anyone else? I love my previous zalman 9700 but I read that there are better options.

I would just go read some unbiased reviews of the coolers you're looking at getting. www.xbitlabs.com and www.frostytech.com have both do pretty good reviews.

All excellent choices for an i7 920. But he has an E8400 - different socket.

I'm voting for the Dark Knight, because that one can be installed on the E8400 without buying a separate bracket. It's also excellent bang for the buck at those prices.

I wonder why no one ever recommends Mugen 2 nowadays? That thing is ridiculously cheap for something that matches TRUE in terms of cooling.

Everywhere else Zalman comes out last. Its funny that on this review it comes out first.

Does anyone know if the coolermaster z600 fits with an asus rampage formula? I recently bought the gskill PI ram with the tall heatsinks, do you guys think there are going to be clearance issues?

I got the Zalman 9700 for my work computer (E8500), then after more research I got the Black Knight for my home computer (Q9400).

With Xigmatek you have 2 options- the Dark Knight and the almost identical HDT-S1283. The Dark Knight comes with the mounting bracket, with the 1283 you would want to order the i7751 mounting bracket.

Works great for my E8400, have it OC to 3.5, stays nice and cool (does'nt hurt that i have it in an Antec 900 though )

The Z600 black comes with a fan but I was going to use one of my extra Antec Tri-cool anyway.

Thats good because the Z600 without a fan isnt that great a cooler.

Unless I'm doing a HTPC I would never install a heatsink without a fan.
