Hi All,
I have not built a computer in some 4 years, and was recently forced to retire my socket 939 FX-60. What I want to do is put my money into a really good motherboard, and buy the least expensive processor for the socket type, and then buy a better processor later on down the road. If I am looking to maximize my ability to upgrade the processor in the future, do I need to go with an LGA 1366 or LGA 1156? Gaming performance is important to me, but I most of what I do is in Photoshop and Premiere, so media performance comes first.

Thanks in advance,

--Mike

First of all, what's your budget? If you don't mind staying on a premium upgrade path, stick with LGA 1366. Gulftown (Core i9) will work with that socket when it comes out next year, while the current Bloomfields (Core i7 9xx) should continue providing state-of-the-art performance for at least a couple more years.

Of course, that's all from someone who only bothered to stay up-to-date with Intel's stuff. Any AMD fans here wanna weigh in?
