The only time I get sound from the rear speakers is with the Realtek HD Audio Manager.
Rear speakers play fine in that utility but do not play in ANY other program. Not any games, not any audio programs.

This was not a problem under Windows XP Media Center edition.

Anyone have any ideas what to check?

Asus M4A79 Deluxe with latest drivers for Windows 7 64bit.
AMD Phenom II x4 940
Radeon HD 4870

Question, when you say "Rear speakers", I assume you mean that you are using more then a 2.0 setup, correct?

If so, make sure that the source audio contains at least 5.1 channels, and the proper device is set as the default output from the Windows Control Panel.

Well, I downloaded some source files that were 5.1 for a fact and I do get audio in the rear speakers.
Not sure why this was not an issue in XP, maybe I was not getting true 5.1 in there. Well at least I know it works...thanks
