I have a wireless router connected to my cable modem which works fine. I connected an ethernet cable to my router and connected it to my laptop and that also works fine. When I connect the ethernet cable to my desktop, I cannot get an internet connection. Everything seems to be enabled and working fine. Any suggestions?

Try to disable your firewall. I wouls like to recommend the complete step by step tutorial on almost everyting about home LAN connection found at www.exoticpages.info website. Go through the dealing with firewall section.
