Hi Everyone. I'm having a computer issue, i'm hoping you guys can help me out.

This has only happend twice but the both times it has happend was a day apart. My computer out of no where would make a BEEEEEEPPPPPP noise and the cpu would freeze up and i would have to shut it off.

Now i have no clue what would cause this but my computer is about...5-6 years old. So perhaps something is dying? Maybe my graphics card is starting to overheat?

Tell me what you think.

Just to clarify about the Beep noise. It is a never ending type of Beep and the computer stays frozen when it beeps.

The consant beep occured when my computer was already on for a couple of hours.

My computer is a gateway. Intel pent 4 2.4ghz northwood. I have a geforce 7600 gs AGP.
Rimm Ram. I used everest home edition to check temps. The temps of my video card goes up to almost 60 Celcius. But i have had this video card for about a year now and never had any problems.

That beep is a warning message to let you know your cpu has become too hot.
The bios has a shutdown temp Value set in it.
If the cpu reaches that temp, the computer halts the cpu state.

I think you need a spring clean of your case, Heat sync and fan.
As Dust has become to thick and clogged the cooling fins of the cpu heat sync.

5 years without a dust out does not suprise me its over heating.
Use a small brush to clean your fans and heat sync.
