Hi,

hopefully someone will be able to help me in my quest to have a pc that boots up :o

This is a new build which includes the ASUS P5Q SE2, which will not boot up at all. I have the bare minimum plugged into the motherboard. I can power up the system, the cpu fan drops to about 40% and no beeping can be heard, however nothing is displayed on the monitor. If the memory is unplugged the system beeps and the cpu fan runs at full speed (still nothing on the monitor).

The system consists of -
ASUS P5Q SE2
intel q8400 (stock fan)
corsair CM2X1024-6400C4 memory (two sticks of 1gb)
silver power 500w psu (with 2 x pcie connectors)
zotac 250gts (dvi output, using a vga adapter)
a case, sata drive and dvd

I'm wondering if the memory is the problem as this appears to be 128 meg chips, and the manual for the mobo clearly states that "this motherboard does not support memory modules made up of 128meg chips". The corsair website shows this modules as 128 meg, and a peek under the heatsink reveals 8 chips (1024 / 8 = 128meg). Unfortunately neither the asus or corsair helplines appear to be open until monday morning :-(

If anyone has any thoughts please send them over

Thanks in advance :)

Regards

Mark B.

[edit] - problem solved, it was one of the corsair memory modules. Cheers for looking.
