Sorry for the few details...It is a Compaq E510 and runs on Windows XP, it had what the computer technician said was 1 GB memory in it. I replaced that with 2 sticks of 1GB memory each. I made sure it was the proper memory for that machine. It was working fine, abeit a bit slow, until I added the new sticks. I guess my question is would replacing memory do something to render the machine unusable?? I'm truly puzzled since I just added new memory to my own machine and had no problems.

Well, if you put the old memory back in and the system goes to display as it normally did, you know there is an 'incompatibility' with the new RAM. Possibly go to the online site of the RAM mfg. and run your compaq E510 through their 'memory configurator' and check for RAM guaranteed to work in the system.

Perhaps email or call the RAM mfg. and seek advice on RAM that will work with your MB chipset.

I put the old memory back in when the new didn't work. The computer still will not bring up the OS. My boyfriend thinks the new memory shorted out the computer and is now looking at me like I'm the Anti-Christ...LOL I just don't think having the memory changed, compatable or not, should cause that to happen.

Try unplugging the system from the wall for a few minutes. If that does not get the monitor back with the old ram, look into defaulting the BIOS (System manual) by removing the MB battery and resetting the CMOS jumper. Use the old RAM only.
