Today was my first time installing an AMD Processor and their weird fan. I've installed Intel processors and fans before where you have to place the processor down, line the fan up with the screw holes, then screw it in.
But with this AMD Processor it came with this weird fan (http://www.techreaction.net/wp-content/uploads/2010/05/cool_AMD_Phenom_Black_edition_heatsink_fan.jpg) , at first i thought nothing of it, but then after i installed my processor and went to install my fan i realised what a pain in the *** it was, i had to place it down and latch it then push down on a handle, i latched on the left side (the one with the handle) then went to do the right one but it wouldn't go down, so i had to press really hard until i finnaly got it into place. Then i went to push down on the handle, it was going smooth at first, it did take a bit of force, but i figured nothing of it because as does installing some cpu's, you have to apply force. So i did as instructed in the manual until the handle got near the very end, i heard what sounded like a little crack or snap, i wasn't sure what that was and i got the **** scared out of me.
Was that supposed to happen, am i supposed to hear a little snap when the lever is near the end. If not did i break the processor, or the motherboard or something? I'd check myself but i have a feeling it's my paranioa kicking in again and that snap i heard was probably supposed to happen to tell you it locked into place or something....
Here are some pics of the fan if some of you don't know what an AMD fan looks like; http://www.ixbt.com/cpu/images/phenom_940_oc/box-cooler.jpg
