i have a old pc p3 motherboard d815eea the dvd is recongnised at the startup. it is seen in the bios as well. It is also working in windows xp and ubuntu.

But this drive is not working as a boot device. That is if i select cd rom in the bios for boot priority and insert a botable cd or dvd it doesnt work.
If a add a cd rom it works as a bootable device

The same DVD drive if added to a newer pc works as a bootable device.

PLease help me
The other hardware are 1 hard disc thats it. I have tried it with 80 and 40 conductor cable and also tried various jumper settings and also made it on primary and secondary but did not work any ideas

Well, might look up the specs of the DVD and see if it's rated as a boot device and it there are any conditions attached to that.

I believe your P3 came out before DVD drives did - it may not recognize it fully for that reason.
