Cards won't crossfire...?

I just built a new rig with an ASUS MB (capable of crossfire), two Gigabyte VG cards (Identicle except one uses DDR3 memory and one uses DDR5 memory), and the other usual other stuff. My question is...why won't they crossfire? Is it because they are different cards? Crossfire isn't an option in the ATI Catalyst control center. On my other computer, with an ASUS Maximus Extreme MB, I have two HIS cards working perfectly in Crossfire... What gives?
