Curious if anyone has attempted to use a larger dish (4' to 6' ft.) to
improve video detail on Dish Netword of Direct TV. As a C-band user with a
12' dish for 18 years, these DBS systems don't have the video quality
of the BUDs, so I'm looking for ways to correct that. Any insight would be
appreciated.
Thanks

Dish and Direct are digital, meaning the signal is either "on" or "off".
When I have a signal strength of 65 the picure is identical to that of
a signal strength of 99. The best possible picture from either of these
satellite systems is frequently not very good, due to crowded bandwidth
and overcompression of the MPEG2 signals.

The picture from your older systems will always look better than any
non-HD signal currently available from Dish or DirecTV. Some of the
best TV reception I've seen was on oldschool satellite TV many years
ago. The new standard-def satellite systems just can't compare.
