Asus P5K extra HDD

I don't know how this works but please bear with me and help me out.
I am using ASUS P5K LGA 775 Intel P35 ATX Intel Motherboard.
I am using 500G HDD but i don't know how to add another Hardisk not a similiar brand.
I only have 2 connector Master connected to DVD-RW and Slave to my Current Hardisk.I have been given a HDD cable blue-grey-black.

Can someone please help me and guide me to connect the HDD.Thank you so much.

  1. Your motherboard has one PATA port allowing a maximum of two devices. Since you already have a master and a slave, that port is full.

Your motherboard also supports up to 6 SATA devices. So to add another device your choices are:

    1) Get a SATA hard drive, or
    2) Get a PATA hard drive, and open up a slot for it by removing/discarding your old DVD-RW and installing a SATA DVD-rw instead.

If the HDD cable you have been given is a wide, flat ribbon cable, you have a PATA hard drive. You need to bring it back and get a SATA hard drive and cable, or go buy a SATA DVD-RW and SATA cable.
  2. Cheers,I understood now.Thank you so much. :bounce:

Ps/ can you give me and example of SATA DVD and SATA HDD??
  3. Great! Don't hesitate to ask if you have any other problem doing the installation.
