I have a 32 GB USB flash drive that will not let me copy or delete files. I get an error message that the files are write protected and cannot be accessed. I am using windows 7 PRO OS. Tried to format the drive and recieve the same message cannot format device is write protected. Windows has no way to disable this feature that I can find. Something on the drive is corrupt but so far have not been able to resolve this issue using windows components. any ideas? Thanks

Followed the instructions from wiki.answers.com and have the same problem. This disk is write protected and cannot be accesed. used Cntrol F in registry editor this opened up the search window. Typed in mass usb storage device. Search ended at "driverdesc" where I deleted it. closed all applications and inserted flash drive. Tried copying files and recieved same error message. Any more ideas?

Have tried the write protect to 0 entry into registry. did not help. tried using command prompt chkdsk f:/f and recieved an error message "this media is FAT 32
this disk is write protected". scandisk in windows atmosphere gives an error message "disk is write protected".

Here is the information I pulled up from a registry search. Please tell me which string to edit and which Key.

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Class\{36FC9E60-C465-11CF-8056-444553540000}\0001]

"MatchingDeviceId"="pci\\ven_8086&dev_3a37"
"DriverDesc"="Intel(R) ICH10 Family USB Universal Host Controller - 3A37"

I searched the registry for "usb mass storage device", "usb device" and "DriverDesc". All searches
produced this information.

Above is the copied string from the registry. Below is how it appears in the registry.

these files are backed up programs and games. The drive gives a write protect error if I try to put anything on the drive. I can get files and folders to copy to the hard drive. I have tried the recovery software and did get information to show up but I don't know what to do with it. Thanks.
