Not to familiar with motherboards and that but my motherboard is a MSI MS-6278 (865PE Neo2-PFS)
Im just wondering if a ATI Radeon HD4850 512MB graphics card would be compatibilty?
or what else i need to look into to find out, such as my 2.4 gHz Intel P4 processor.
Also can my motherboard support 4GB RAM like 4x 1GB DDR RAM for example?
Don't see your board listed on msi's website; it could be part of an oem system by hp or dell, etc. Most 865 chipset 478 boards use agp video cards, so the 4870 won't work; also be sure to check the power supply requirements before ordering any newer card.

Thanks for that i have a GeForce Ti 4200 at the moment. My motherboard says it supports AGP 8+, could you recommend any graphics cards that it could support since and are good for gaming. How can i check my PSU details so i can see if i meet the new cards requirements
I recommend against upgrading an agp video card. But if you want to spend the $$, the 4670 may be your best bet, and it tends to work with lower rated 300-400 watt power supplies. Just be sure you get the agp version; it's available in pci-e also for alot less.
The standard for most boards is pci-e 2.0, a physically different slot from agp. Agp has been a dead standard for awhile. They actually sell for more $$ as the supply is going down. For more info about the memory capacity, go to msi's website and look under "archives".
